Renewing Your License

An Amateur Radio license can be renewed 90 days before it expires and during a two year grace

period after expiration.  During the grace period, you cannot Legally transmit until the license

is renewed, but you don't need to take the exam again and you can keep your call sign as provided

under 47 C.F.R. § 97.21(b).   

Before you start the renewal process, have all your information ready:  FCC Registration Number (FRN),

CORES Username, FCC passwords, access to emails, and an electronic payment method.

If you are an ARRL member, you can have the ARRL notify you when your license is about to expire.  

The ARRL can also assist in filing.

A US Amateur Radio license can only be renewed on line through the FCC Universal Licensing

System (ULS) for a standard $35 application fee.  You must start at: 

https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsEntry/licManager/login.jsp .  

If it is less than 90 days until your license expires you can follow the prompts.   An account/login is

required to access.

To check your renewal date go to:  https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp . 

Enter your call sign and hit “Search”.  You will find your expiration date in the form.
